FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. We never ask for your SSN, your date of birth, or your home address. We don’t link to your exchange accounts. We don’t ask for read-only API keys. We work only with transaction data — CSV exports, wallet addresses, blockchain explorer data. The forms we prepare (Form 8949, Schedule D, Schedule 1) slot into the filing path where your personal info already lives — your CPA’s intake, or your TurboTax account.
Standard turnaround is 5-7 business days from the moment your transaction data is fully uploaded. Larger portfolios (50K+ transactions, 1M+ transactions, or 20+ exchanges) take longer — we quote the timeline on the free consultation call. Expedited processing is available on Platinum.
Yes. ETH or BTC on the chains you’d expect. We also accept USD via the usual methods if you’d rather not realize a taxable event paying your crypto tax prep bill.
Every reconciliation is reviewed by a real specialist — not just dumped through automated software. We trace every transaction to its source (exchange CSV, wallet address, chain explorer). The final deliverable is an audit-ready workbook: Form 8949, Schedule D, Schedule 1 (Form 1040), per-exchange breakdowns, margin fees, cost-basis tax analysis. If the IRS asks, the answer is already in the workbook.
Quick clarification: we prepare your crypto tax forms — we do not file your return. You hand the package to your CPA or file yourself in TurboTax.
Yes. The three published tiers (Standard $295, Pro $695, Platinum $995) are starting points for portfolios up to ~1,000 transactions. Anything beyond that — high-volume yield farming, multi-DEX LP positions, 50K+ transactions, 1M+ transactions, prior-year amendments — is custom-quoted on the free 30-min consultation call.
No. Our largest portfolio to date: 1M+ transactions across 80 wallets and 30+ exchanges. We’ve handled DeFi positions, NFTs, ordinals, LP tokens, Pendle PT/YT, yield farming, MEV bot activity, restaking, bridging. Same workflow whether the portfolio is 200 trades or 1 million.
Yes. Our audit-ready workbooks have never failed an IRS exam to date. If you receive an IRS notice (CP2000, CP3219A, or anything else related to your crypto reporting), we can help — custom-quoted based on the scope. For 1099-DA reconciliation work, we also offer Audit Assurance ($99 add-on) which covers professional fees if our calculations are challenged.
Book the free 30-minute consultation. No SSN, no credit card. You’ll leave the call with a clear scope and a quote. From there: upload your exchange CSVs and wallet addresses to our intake, and we go to work. Audit-ready forms back in 5-7 business days.
No. We prepare the crypto portion of your tax return — Form 8949, Schedule D, Schedule 1 (Form 1040), per-exchange breakdowns, cost-basis tax analysis. You take that package to your CPA, or you file it yourself in TurboTax. We are crypto tax preparation specialists. We do not file returns. That’s the line — we keep it clean because it’s the only way to do this work without touching your SSN.
Because we never file your return. We work only with transaction data — exchange CSVs, wallet addresses, chain explorer data. The forms we prepare slot into the filing path where your personal info already lives. Your CPA already has your SSN. Your TurboTax account already has your SSN. We don’t need to be another place it lives.
Same workflow. Our largest portfolio to date is 1M+ transactions across 80 wallets and 30+ exchanges. High-volume portfolios are custom-quoted on the free 30-min call — pricing scales by complexity and turnaround, not just transaction count.
Yes — these are the edge cases other firms refuse. We trade them ourselves so we know what they actually look like on-chain. Uniswap LPs, Aerodrome, Pendle PT/YT, Curve, Convex, GMX, Hyperliquid, Bitcoin ordinals, NFT mints and flips, multi-chain bridging — same workflow.
Often yes. If your wallets ever touched that exchange (deposits, withdrawals, on-chain transfers), we can reconstruct transaction history from blockchain data. This is one of the highest-value services we do — and one of the most common scenarios for clients filing multi-year amendments. Custom-quoted on the free call.
No client cap. We work with CPA firms running anywhere from 5 to 500+ crypto clients per season. Pricing scales by volume and complexity — see the CPA crypto tax services page or book a call.
Yes. Crypto-holding businesses, DAOs, NFT projects, mining operations, and trading entities. We prepare the crypto portion — your business CPA still files the corporate return. Custom-quoted based on entity structure and transaction volume.
Yes. You’ll be assigned a dedicated tax specialist as your point of contact from intake to delivery. You can ping them with questions any time during your engagement.
Three things:
1. By traders. The BCTP team trades crypto — DeFi, LP, NFTs, ordinals, yield farming. We understand the edge cases because we’ve lived them.
2. No SSN, no DOB, no address. Every other crypto tax service wants your personal info before they’ll touch your wallets. We don’t. Transaction data only.
3. Done-for-you, by real specialists. Not a DIY tool you log into. Not software pretending to be a service. A specialist reconciles your portfolio and delivers an audit-ready workbook — Form 8949, Schedule D, Schedule 1, per-exchange breakdowns, cost-basis analysis.
No. The published tiers are the published tiers. Add-ons (Missing Cost Basis research at $200/hr, Audit Assurance at $99 for 1099-DA work, custom-quoted IRS notice response) are quoted up-front before any work starts. No surprise invoices.
Our deliverable includes a cost-basis tax analysis that models FIFO, LIFO, HIFO, and Specific-ID side-by-side so you (or your CPA) can see which method produces the lowest tax for your portfolio.
For broader tax planning conversations — pre-trade scenarios, harvesting strategy, multi-year planning — that’s a conversation to have with your CPA. We can also do a planning consult; ask on the free call.
The strongest privacy protection is not collecting the data in the first place. We don’t ask for your SSN, DOB, or address. We don’t link to your accounts. We don’t store private keys. The only data we touch is transaction history — CSVs and public wallet addresses you provide. Files transit and are stored on encrypted infrastructure with industry-standard protocols.
Yes. Every engagement delivers a complete audit-ready workbook: Form 8949, Schedule D, Schedule 1 (Form 1040), per-exchange breakdowns, margin fees, and a cost-basis tax analysis. Every transaction is traced to its source so the documentation is defensible if the IRS asks.
