We built this firm because the software kept being wrong.
Mike and Brian were traders first. Every tax season ended the same way: exports that didn't reconcile, cost basis that vanished at the bridge, and software support that suggested clearing the cache. So they built their own — properly.
Today, Blockchain Crypto Tax Prep is a US crypto tax firm based in Annapolis, Maryland, working exclusively in crypto since 2017. We've prepared returns for 2,500+ traders — from first-time filers to million-transaction portfolios — on software we built around guidance from the IRS's Core Digital Asset team.

Crypto tax is the only thing we do.
We're not a general accounting firm with a crypto side-desk. Blockchain Crypto Tax Prep is a dedicated crypto tax firm — and has been since 2017, which makes us one of the oldest in the space. Every return we touch is crypto, which is why the cases that stop other preparers cold — DeFi, LP positions, NFTs, multi-wallet portfolios, bridged assets, dead exchanges, and 1099-DA mismatches — are just a normal week here.
That focus is the whole point. When crypto is all you do, you build the tools, the process, and the judgment for it — instead of forcing a stock-and-bond workflow onto a problem it was never designed for.
The people who'll actually do the work
Mike Ring
A decade in public accounting before crypto found him in 2017 — plus multiple meetings with the IRS's Core Digital Asset team since. Mike trades DeFi himself and personally reviews every audit-ready workbook the firm ships. Nine years answering everything from "is this even taxable?" to "how do I reconcile a 1099-DA against my Pendle position?"
Brian Ernest
Perdue School of Business, '09. A background in corporate finance and tax planning — plus an $8M creative-financing renovation company on his resume. Brian keeps the firm's economics and tax strategy sharp, and the operation running at the volume crypto tax demands: thousands of clients, portfolios up to a million-plus transactions, and a 5–7 day turnaround.
Anna Mae Garcia
Runs operations and growth end to end — the intake and workflow behind every 5–7 day turnaround, and the marketing that brings crypto traders through the door. She's the reason a chaotic pile of wallets and exchange exports turns into a calm, predictable process for every client.

Three things off-the-shelf software won't do
Show its work
Every number traces through its full chain — bridges, LPs, dead exchanges. Nothing hidden behind a guess.
We trade this stuff too
DeFi, LPs, NFTs, ordinals. We hold the same positions you do, so your edge cases aren't exotic to us.
Audit-ready or it doesn't ship
Every figure traces to a source. If the IRS asks, the answer is already in your workbook.
About the firm
We're a dedicated crypto tax preparation firm. We prepare clean, audit-ready forms — Form 8949, Schedule D, and supporting documentation — and work alongside your CPA, who files the return. We complement your CPA; we don't replace them.
We're headquartered at 175 Admiral Cochrane Dr, Suite 404B, Annapolis, Maryland — and we serve US crypto traders nationwide, fully remote.
Since 2017 — among the first firms in the US to specialize exclusively in crypto tax. We've prepared returns for 2,500+ traders since.
All the time. You hand us the crypto piece, we hand back reconciled, audit-ready numbers and forms, and your CPA drops them into the return. Much of our work happens behind the scenes for individuals and CPA firms alike.
We built our own software — modeled on guidance from the IRS's Core Digital Asset team — so every figure traces back to the transaction it came from. It's done-for-you and audit-ready, not a DIY tool you rent and reconcile yourself.
Talk to the people, not the progress bar.
The consult is free. Bring questions, bring chaos, bring fourteen wallets.
